Atopic Dermatitis Research Network
The Atopic Dermatitis Research Network (ADRN) is a group of researchers at hospitals and other research centers across the United States. The ADRN network is dedicated to the common goal of learning more about the immune system of people with atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema. This team of researchers aims to study the structure and function of the skin, how and why some people get atopic dermatitis, and how to treat and prevent this condition.
NIAID has been funding a dedicated research network for atopic dermatitis since 2004, originally under the name Atopic Dermatitis and Vaccinia Network (ADVN). This network focused on eczema vaccinatum, which is a complication of the smallpox vaccine that occurs in some patients with atopic dermatitis. Over time, the research expanded to study all defense mechanisms of the skin, and in 2010, this network became the ADRN. Now, the focus has been broadened to include studies of the defense mechanisms of the skin, the skin microbiome, and the treatment of atopic dermatitis.

A Moment to Celebrate the TIME-2 Trial

Congratulations to our Targeted Investigation of Microbiome 2 Treat Atopic Dermatitis (ADRN-14/TIME-2) study teams! All teams are active and looking for participants in the trial.
In this trial, we are testing whether a natural microbe put on the skin can improve atopic dermatitis. This microbe does not cause infections, but it can fight other microbes in the skin that are known to make atopic dermatitis worse.
We also have six more sites that are seeking participants for this trial:

- New York University Langone Health; New York City, NY
- Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine; Chicago, IL
- University of Rochester Medical Center; Rochester, NY
- University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health; Madison, WI
The study needs to enroll 86 participants who have atopic dermatitis and are interested in contributing to testing this new potential treatment.
